| In early 2009, Paul Jensen, contacted Freowood looking for a venue to run a course in building wollow wooden surfboards. We were unaware at the time that Paul is a well respected builder and teacher in this field. But it sounded like fun so we did it. Multiply the smile in this picture by 10 and you get the result. |

The board is based on a pre-cut plywood framework to which are attached an upper and lower skin of 3mm alternating strips of Paulownia and western red cedar (both exceptionally light but strong timbers).The edges are then built up with layers of ply and cork, which will be shaped to our desired rail contour.

Due to the overwhelming interest from surfers and lovers of beauty that we have experienced since the course,we are working towards running further courses at J Shed. We're taking what Paul has taught us and, hopefully, we can contribute something to the developing (re-developing?) art of building hollow wooden surfboards.We're excited. We're having fun.
